Protect Your PC From Adware and Spyware With These Helpful Tips.

September 22, 2004 -- Now more than ever, adware, and spyware applications are flooding your computer network at an alarming rate. If you're not using an Adware and Spyware removal tool, or an antivirus tool on your PC, you are absolutely, positively crazy, but they're not enough.

Unfortunately, antivirus programs can't detect new viruses until they're already on the loose. Your system is left vulnerable for the hours, even days, until your antivirus vendor delivers the updates. Luckily, you can stop the worst viruses in their tracks--even before they get out in the open.

You can find tips, and tools for Adware and Spyware removal for your computer at http://spywareremoval.ec-force.com. But if you're anxious to get started, here are a few helpful tips for you to follow right now:

1. Enable Automatic Updates: If you're using Windows XP, right-click My Computer, choose Properties, Automatic Updates, and check 'Keep my computer up to date.' At least once a month, preferably after Microsoft announces its latest security fixes, visit windowsupdate.microsoft.com, and let the site scan your system. Download anything labeled 'Critical'.

2. Use a software and a hardware firewall: If you have broadband Internet service, you can't be too safe. Belkin, D-Link, Linksys, and other vendors sell inexpensive broadband gateways that bounce back worm attacks that would otherwise infect your PC.

Turn off scripting behaviors in Internet Explorer: You must alter Internet Explorer's scripting settings to block the threat. Here's how you do it:

In IE, click Tools, Internet Options, Security. Choose the Earth icon under 'Select a Web content zone', and click Custom Level. You'll have 3 options in the dialog: Disable, Enable, and Prompt. Don't Enable everything as this is asking for trouble. However, being prompted every time a script or ActiveX control wants to run will drive nuts. In any event, disable 'Download unsigned ActiveX controls', 'Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe', 'Active scripting', and 'Scripting of Java applets.' Finally, set 'Java permissions' to High Safety.

Unfortunately, with scripts disabled, many of your favorite Web sites may not open. If this is the case, simply add the URLs for these sites and services to IE's 'Trusted Sites' list. To do this, open IE and click Tools, Internet Options, Security. Select the Trusted Sites icon, click Sites, and then enter the URLs one at a time. Uncheck Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone, and click OK. That's it.

3. Scan your PC periodically for Adware, and Spyware: You can use any of the free Adware and Spyware scanners available online. You can access several free software scanning tools at http://spywareremoval.ec-force.com or you can use your own. In the end, just use something you're comfortable with, but at least scan your computer once a week.

These tips may just help save your computer, and you can begin implementing them right now.
